As COVID concerns are rising, and governments are adding restrictions again, and the ability to meet outside becomes far less desirable, I guess we are back to virtual events for a while. I switched the Peoria monthly meets to virtual using Google Meet starting in November. While it is not nearly as nice as meeting in person and seeing each others cars, it will have to do for a while. We can expect this to last at least until April where we can reassess then. One nice thing about the virtual meetings is we can meet with anyone in the whole region, even if they are out of state for a while. Normally this breakfast meeting attracted people from the greater Peoria/Bloomington area but not much more. Now anyone anywhere can join. Given that, I really hope to see more people attend these virtual meetings.
I recently found a website that lists several scenic drives here in Illinois by the Illinois Department of Transportation. This could be a very handy source for future drives with the club. Below are a few other sites highlighting scenic routes in Illinois:
I found these with a quick Google search. There are likely more. I wanted to share this now since the fall colors are really starting to take off, and we have had so many restrictions with the virus this year many people are getting cabin fever. A nice scenic drive in a Porsche is even more enjoyable than ever.
Our 2020 events schedule has been very light due to the virus. We normally plan a Christmas dinner in December but unfortunately this year we are cancelling it. Early next year the LTR board will meet and start to plan out 2021 which may include the dinner we planned at Christmas this year, but in the summer.
We still have the drive to Lasalle in October. This event is virus safe as we will all be in our own cars. We are even handling registration and waivers electronically following PCA’s new process through Clubregistration.net. We hope to have a great turnout for this drive so please register using this new process so it can run safe and smooth.
We are still having many of the regional meets too. In the spring some of these were virtual using Skype and Google Meet but as the state started relaxing some of the restrictions, we have started meeting in person again.
As we look forward to a better situation in 2021 here are some resources for tracking the virus situation with data.
* COVID-Net Hospitalizations. Use the “weekly rate” selection in the upper left to see what is happening over time. This shows a double hump and now a steadily decreasing rate of hospitalizations.
* Illinois Department of Health COVID metrics. Select your region to see local metrics.
The Lincoln Trail PCA will have a driving tour from Autohaus in Peoria, to downtown Lasalle on October 10th. We will meet at Autohaus by 10am. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a survey of member feedback, this year we will not have lunch as part of the event but it will end at the same place. The PCA also has a new waiver that all attendees must sign before the event. Info about this new waiver, and how to electronically sign both waivers is here. We will use Clubregistration.net (the official PCA event registration website) to register for this event. Please register here before October 9th to participate. Make sure all attendees also sign both waivers as part of the registration.

The PCA created a new communicable disease spectator and participant waiver that anyone attending an event needs to sign. The official PCA event registration tool, Clubregistration.net, has implemented a way for registrants of an event to electronically sign this and the other event liability waiver forms electronically when registering for events. This is intended to not only reduce person-to-person contact but also speed up the event start. Clubregistration.net has created this guide for signing these waivers electronically.
We have our first club drive of the year planned for October 10th, 2020. It is the drive from Autohaus in Peoria to LaSalle. This year we omitted the group meal at the end since most are not interested in indoor gatherings at this time based on our recent survey. This event in now open for registration in Clubregistration.net. We would like all participants to register and sign the 2 waivers. Once the 2 waivers are signed, it should look like this in your Clubregistration.net dashboard.
We recently surveyed the LTR members about events this year. Here are the results. Question responses are (left side) 1 = “not very” and (right side) 5 = “very much” to the question. There were 30 responses.
I would be interesting in attending Mix & Mingle events (lunch or dinner) indoors
I would be interesting in attending Mix & Mingle events (lunch or dinner) Outdoors
I would be interesting in attending driving events (cruise, on public roads).
It seems very few are interested in indoor events this year given the current situation. Many are interested in driving events. Based on this we are making some changes to our calendar. The Christmas party is cancelled. The October drive from Autohaus to LaSalle will be held, but the lunch part is removed. We are considering other potential drives this fall. Stay tuned…
We would like to better understand what members are interested in participating in this year given the current conditions. Please fill out this survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSffcWAiaq8bE1jQVbPQCcRIfExjczCp3qaW26R8bQgwnAxlXA/viewform?usp=sf_link
